Belgium is a country known for its charming cities, rich history, and delicious cuisine. Beyond its bustling streets and historic landmarks, Belgium is also home to a fascinating array of animals and creatures. In this blog post, we'll explore some of the wildlife you can encounter in two of Belgium's most vibrant cities: Brussels and Antwerp.

Brussels, the capital of Belgium, may be best known for its stunning architecture and world-class chocolates, but the city is also home to a variety of animal species. One of the most iconic residents of Brussels is the Manneken Pis, a bronze statue of a little boy urinating into a fountain. While not a real animal, this quirky landmark is a beloved symbol of the city's sense of humor and irreverence. In addition to its famous statue, Brussels is also home to several parks and green spaces where you can spot a wide range of wildlife. The Sonian Forest, located just outside the city center, is a great place to observe birds, deer, and other forest creatures in their natural habitat. Meanwhile, the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken offer a unique opportunity to see exotic plants and flowers up close. Moving on to Antwerp, the second-largest city in Belgium, visitors can discover a different set of animals and creatures. Antwerp's bustling port is a hub of activity, with ships arriving from around the world carrying goods and sometimes even stowaway animals. The city's zoo, Antwerpen Zoo, is one of the oldest and most famous zoos in Europe, housing over 5,000 animals from more than 950 species. Beyond the confines of the zoo, Antwerp is also home to a variety of urban wildlife. Peregrine falcons can be spotted soaring above the city skyline, while hedgehogs, foxes, and bats make their homes in parks and gardens throughout Antwerp. The nearby Scheldt River is a hotspot for birdwatching, with hundreds of species of waterfowl and wading birds visiting the area each year. Whether you're exploring the streets of Brussels or Antwerp, keep an eye out for the diverse array of animals and creatures that call these Belgian cities home. From cheeky statues to majestic birds of prey, Belgium's wildlife is as varied and intriguing as the country itself.
